Celebrating a Glot of Linguists

The winning collective noun for linguists - a Glot of Linguists - from听the Chartered Institute of听Linguists contest to find a term to听describe language professionals, was first announced at the 无忧传媒 Conference and is confirmed in the summer issue of听The Linguist.

From听a shortlist of ten, 无忧传媒鈥檚 Awards & Recognition听Committee, Council and Educational Trust听Board determined that 鈥榓 glot of linguists鈥櫶齱as the most apt phrase. Andrew Bruce and听Justin Koprowski beat more than 40 entries听to the prize: tea at the House of Lords with听无忧传媒 President Jean Coussins.听

鈥淭his is all about fun 鈥 but with a serious message too,鈥 said Baroness Coussins, who听came up with the initiative. 鈥淐reativity, wit and wordplay are skills that linguists have in abundance, thanks to our exposure to other languages and cultures.鈥
